Description | Direct Connect Development Co. is planning to construct the SOO green transmission line from Mason City, Iowa, to a substation in Plano, Ill. The 349-mile-long underground line will carry electricity generated mostly by wind turbines in Iowa. The 2,100-MW high voltage direct current line will run along existing railroad lines. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Jingoli Power and Siemens Financial Services are serving as the main investors of the project. Siemens is also responsible for the overall system design, engineering, manufacturing, civil works, installation and commissioning of the HVDC converter stations. Construction is expected to start in 2022 and be completed in 2025. The estimated construction cost is $2.5 billion. |
