The Sorang Hydro Power project was a 100 MW run of the river project located on Sorang Khad a tributary of Sutlej River in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The Project was being developed by Himachal Sorang Power Pvt. Ltd. (HSPPL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) promoted by Maytas Infra Limited in joint venture with Nagarjuna Construction Co. Ltd., & SSJV Projects Private Limited. The project was awarded to Himachal Sorang Power Pvt. Ltd. by the government of Himachal Pradesh (GoHP) through competitive bidding on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis for a period of 40 years. The bidding for the project was initiated by GoHP in July 2002 and the project was awarded in August 2002. However, the re-bidding was initiated in 2003. The details of re-bidding were however not known at the time of collection of information. The Project was awarded to HSPPL in January 2006. The project was estimated to cost USD 145 million and achieved financial closure in June 2006. The project was expected to be commissioned in 2010.
