Sports play a vital role, not only in individual health and fitness but in shaping our wider European society, as it is a force for social integration, tolerance, and understanding & provides the opportunity to develop not only physical being but also social competencies and ethical values. Its positive role in education is also increasingly acknowledged. Sport brings a key contribution to the promotion of the core values of the Council of Europe, which acts firmly against some of the negative aspects of the sport such as doping. Historically, doping is the first of the Council of Europe's concerns in sport, which collaborates with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) a worldwide movement for doping-free sport. Responding to the opportunities of Sport Chapter of Erasmus+ call for small scale partnerships about “Common values, civic engagement, and participation”, EQUALINE (Greece) propose a partnership of experienced sport & youth-oriented organizations from Spain & Slovenia (on top of doping cases, WADA reports for 16'), Portugal & Germany, for the SAGE implementation, an 18-month European project that aims to develop & spread innovative educational tools towards anti-doping education on doping, natural doping option & overall & awareness of young athletes by promoting critical thinking towards “sage” choices, in a dynamically changing society. SAGE echoes the EU’s 2019-2027 Youth Strategy & 2021-2024 Work Plan of Europe for Sports in “tackle cross-border threats to the integrity of sport, such as doping” Study Visits, Seminars, Project Meetings in 5 countries & an educational platform will be the vehicle to reach best practices, which will be recorded in SAGE e-Guide, available online. “Sound Athletes Grow Sound Societies (SAGE) “talks” about an “update” of the well-known ancient saying and it’s focused on the future wise societies that young athletes will demonstrate through equal inclusion, education, knowledge & critical thinking ability.
