Souris Breakwater St. Shoreline Protection

This project consists of the new installation of shoreline protection measures to stabilize an existing slope and prevent further erosion as a result of wave action. This project will protect approximately 100 metres of shoreline adjacent to Breakwater Street in Souris, Prince Edward Island. The street serves as important access to residential homes, and business as well as to the Souris Harbour and Madeleine Island Ferry Terminal. The reshaping and sloping of the existing shoreline, installation of armour stone, installation of imported rockfill, and installation of premium borrow will help to stabilize the shoreline and protect Breakwater Street from the impacts of shoreline erosion. Wave action in this area has resulted in significant shoreline erosion and is expected to only get worse with rising sea levels, increased storm frequency, severity, and other effects of climate change.
