South Africa – Statistical Capacity Building (SCB II) in Regional Member Countries for MDG Monitoring and Results Measurement

The present intervention relates to Statistical Capacity Building (SCB II) in Regional Member Countries for MDG Monitoring and Results Measurement. It’s designed to assist South Africa to improve its National Statistical System (NSS). By building statistical capacity, the programme planned to contribute to improved monitoring of progress towards the MDGs (now called MDGs) and poverty reduction efforts. The project is expected to benefit producers and users of official statistics, national policy-makers, the private sector, researchers and the public, as well as development partners at the national, regional and international levels. The results of the programme are expected to make a very important contribution in strengthening the creation of new business opportunities in the public and private sectors in South Africa. These results should also enable the Bank to generate a strong pipeline of programmes and projects for financing in South Africa. The program has four main components, namely : (1) support for the following activities : (i) the International Comparison Programme (ICP); (ii) the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and (iii) the Statistical Business Register (SBSR); (2) improving social statistics, poverty assessment and analysis; (3) improving statistics in priority areas of intervention; and (4) data management, archiving and dissemination.
