South Africa National Digital Identity System

planned

South Africa is introducing a national digital identity system that will operate alongside existing physical identity cards. The system will use the MyMzansi mobile application, incorporating biometric authentication, NFC, Bluetooth, and QR code verification to enhance security, reduce identity fraud, and expand access to digital public services. The digital identity will be valid for five years and require biometric facial verification for remote renewal. The system is part of a broader e-government infrastructure modernization effort.
