South African National Shipping Line (SASCO)

planned

South Africa is creating a new national shipping line named the South African Shipping Company (SASCO) to reduce reliance on foreign shipping lines and carry a significant portion of the country's seaborne trade under the South African flag. A steering committee is being formed to guide the development of this state-owned carrier, including members from the Department of Transport, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Industrial Development Corporation, and other stakeholders. The project includes plans for new shipbuilding and secondhand purchases of various vessel types, all South African-flagged.
