South Carolina Monument Protection Legislation

planned

A bill approved by the South Carolina Senate to protect nearly every historic statue, monument, street, and building name across South Carolina from removal or changes. The bill also bans QR code stickers on monuments and requires local governments to get General Assembly approval to remove or change monuments. It allows registered private historical groups to sue if monuments are not treated legally and mandates that any monument moved due to building renovation or road projects be displayed in an area of equal or greater prominence.
