The $1-million project restores commuter rail service between Boston and three previously underserved cities with nearly 40 miles of new track, six new stations, 12 bridges, 28 grade crossings and two new layover facilities. The project involved close coordination and sequenced construction activities in an active freight corridor, including early action packages like culvert improvements, track materials procurement, and bridge replacements. It also features accelerated bridge construction techniques and prefabricated components for a new pedestrian bridge in New Bedford.
