South Korea's First Nuclear-Powered Submarine

planned

South Korea plans to build and launch its first nuclear-powered submarine by the mid-2030s under a new defence programme aimed at countering North Korea's growing submarine-based nuclear and missile capabilities. The submarine will run on low-enriched uranium fuel and be fully developed and built domestically, relying on South Korea's advanced shipbuilding, defence, and nuclear industries. The project involves coordination with the United States and the International Atomic Energy Agency to ensure compliance with non-proliferation commitments.
