A major reconstruction project on South Locust Street in Grand Island, Nebraska, involving closure of the street between Oklahoma Avenue and Charles Street starting April 8, 2026. The project includes replacing the asphalt roadway with concrete curb-and-gutter street, sidewalks, a bike trail, storm sewer improvements, water main upgrades, sanitary sewer repairs, roadway lighting, new pavement markings and signage, and construction of a roundabout at the South Locust Street and Anna Street/Bismark Road intersection. The project entered its second construction season in 2026, with the first phase completed in 2025. The construction contract was awarded to Elsbury Construction for just over $9 million.
