South Street Pedestrian Bridge Extension

The project involves extending the South Street Pedestrian Bridge diagonally across South Christopher Columbus Boulevard to the Delaware River waterfront. The extension includes installing a 258-foot cable-tied arch span that will rise nearly 100 feet above the roadway, providing a direct path for pedestrians and cyclists to the waterfront with a landing area at Lombard Circle. The arch installation is planned to occur overnight to minimize traffic disruption, with the bridge opening expected in 2027. The project is part of a larger $329 million transformation of the Delaware River waterfront, including a cap over I-95 at Penn's Landing to create an 11.5-acre park opening in 2030.
