South Weymouth Naval Air Station Redevelopment

A joint venture between Brookfield Properties and New England Development is redeveloping the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station in Massachusetts into the state's largest mixed-use project. The redevelopment will include 6,500 housing units and approximately two million square feet of commercial and retail space across a 1,400-acre site spanning Weymouth, Rockland, and Abington. The project includes infrastructure improvements such as water, wastewater, and road upgrades, supported by over $35 million in state and local funding. A 6.7-mile pipeline to connect Weymouth to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority water supply is scheduled for completion by 2031, with infrastructure work starting in fall 2026. The redevelopment will also preserve more than 880 acres of open and restricted space and create habitats for local wildlife.
