Southampton reducing Air Pollution with Living Walls

Southampton City Council implemented an £8.2 million project involving the full reconstruction of Millbrook roundabout to reduce air pollution caused by motor vehicles. The project included the installation of ten living walls designed to capture particulate matter and improve air quality. The living walls feature 11,295 plants of 17 different species, chosen for their ability to capture toxins and pollutants. The project not only aims to reduce pollution but also to create a well-balanced local ecosystem by attracting various species of insects.
