Space Power Beaming Demonstration Project

planned

The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is seeking commercial proposals to develop systems that can beam electrical power between spacecraft and from orbit to the ground. The project aims to demonstrate this technology within two years and move it toward operational military use by fiscal 2030. The project includes developing transmission systems for space-to-space and space-to-ground power beaming, receivers to capture and convert energy, and components to make future transmitters and receivers smaller and more manufacturable.
