Description | The Spacesail Constellation project is a Chinese commercial low Earth orbit (LEO) broadband satellite constellation designed to provide seamless global Internet communication coverage and ensure telecommunication security and independence. The project aims to deploy around 15,000 satellites by 2030, with 162 satellites already in orbit as of May 2026 and a total of 648 expected by the end of 2026. It is funded initially by the Shanghai Municipal Government with 6.7 billion yuan and is part of China's strategic efforts in global digital sovereignty and economic development. |
