Sparwood - Wastewater Treatment Plant: Secondary Treatment Upgrade

The project will increase the quality of wastewater treatment in Sparwood by upgrading the existing wastewater treatment facilities to provide secondary treatment. The existing treatment process is beyond the expected useful life and does not reliably meet provincial environmental standards. The improved quality of the treated effluent will ensure that the Elk River and downstream environments are protected. The project works include: - replacement of the existing oxidation ditch with bioreactors complete with tanks to provide secondary treatment; - construction of sludge tank with mixer; - construction of blower and control building; - replacement and extension of pipe systems; - upgrades to electrical and communication systems; - related process equipment and control systems; - related civil, mechanical and electrical works; and, - all related works.
