Description
Description | "The project ""Speak Up! Empowering Citizens to Uphold EU Democratic Values, Strengthen Freedom of Speech, and Actively Participate in Society"" is rooted in the fundamental European values of democracy, the rule of law, human dignity, equality, solidarity, freedom of expression and active citizenship. Over 2 years, the Project will empower secondary‑school educators internationally to embed these values in their teaching and inspire students to embrace their rights and responsibilities. In Phase 1, partners carry out a comprehensive needs assessment—mapping existing citizenship education practices, identifying gaps, and gathering insights from teachers and students. Based on these findings, we co‑design a modular curriculum covering EU institutions, democratic principles, civil rights, diversity and inclusion, enriched with interactive case studies and classroom debates. Next, we develop a toolkit of practical methods: practical simulations to demonstrate fairness and the rule of law; peer‑dialogue workshops to foster empathy and mutual respect; and community‑based activities to build solidarity. Pilot testing enlists teachers and students as co‑creators: their structured feedback refines both content and delivery, honoring inclusive participation. Concurrently, a blended teacher training programme (online modules, in‑person workshops and Training‑of‑Trainers) strengthens educators’ capacity, while a mentorship framework and online community sustain peer support and ongoing collaboration. By equipping teachers as catalysts for democratic culture and engaging young people as co‑creators, the project will strengthen European values, freedom of expression and proactive citizenship in diverse school communities. The project deepens citizens appreciation for human dignity, collective responsibility and freedom of expression. Rigorous monitoring and evaluation compare participant knowledge, attitudes and skills before and after activities, guiding continuous improvement." |
