Description
Description | ContextSince the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, the communities in the north, east and south of Ukraine have been particularly affected – some have suffered severe damage, while others were temporarily occupied. More than 14 million people have been forced to flee their homes. Around seven million internally displaced people have settled in safe areas of Ukraine. The host communities’ capacities urgently have to be improved so that they can meet people’s needs.Activities under the Special Assistance Programme Ukraine have been adapted accordingly to assist partners with crisis management, promoting mental health, and delivering psychosocial support.ObjectiveGovernmental and non-governmental institutions in selected communities in Ukraine are delivering needs-based services to meet people’s essential needs and protect the population.ApproachThe programme is focused on empowering local social, health care and administrative institutions to improve access to and the quality of services in line with the public’s needs. To this end, it organises training for medical, social and administrative personnel on a wide range of topics. To promote closer links and mutual support between civil society stakeholders, the programme provides essential technical equipment for public spaces in the partner communities. These spaces facilitate self-organisation among internally displaced people in particular. The programme offers emergency assistance to partner communities, including equipment to allow them to help internally displaced people, such as generators, heaters and other goods. Modular solutions enable the communities to develop their social and health care capacities and provide temporary housing for internally displaced people. |
