Special program for reconstruction of school infrastructure

The special program to rebuild school infrastructure is part of the DC program for basic and vocational education in Mozambique, which pursues the overarching goal of ensuring that children and young people, and especially girls, increasingly make successful use of educational opportunities that have been improved in terms of quantity and quality and adapted to their living conditions. The FC program aims to rebuild infrastructure destroyed by Cyclone Idai in a climate-resilient manner. In doing so, an approach is being pursued that takes the school as a whole into account. The measure-specific goal is to create normal learning conditions - especially for girls - in accordance with MINEDH standards in the sense of escolas completas that are sustainably prepared for future climate disasters (Build-Back-Better/BBB approach). The project addresses the core problem of the lack of climate resilience of existing educational institutions. The program also promotes the opportunities for Mozambican children and young people to receive a high-quality education, thereby contributing to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG), particularly with regard to quality. With a particular focus on girls, German development cooperation contributes to gender equality (SDG 5). The programme thus indirectly contributes to poverty reduction (SDG 1). The target group of the project are students and teachers of selected educational institutions affected by climate disasters.
