We will design an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme in Speech Language and AI Technologies. The consortium consists of 1 European University alliance (the Unite! University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering) and 3 Universities from non-associated countries: Ukrainian Catholic University Lviv (Ukraine), University of Monastir (Tunisia) and University of Edinburgh (UK). This offers a unique chance to challenge and demonstrate the international appeal and competitiveness of the Unite! alliance. The field of Speech and Language Technologies shows explosive growth at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence all over the world, and Europe thrives as a fair and inclusive multilingual society where these technologies are in urgent need for larger and smaller language communities to foster cohesion of our economies and people. Recent technological developments like smart virtual assistants and hearing solutions, translating earpods, large language models and chatbots like ChatGPT or DeepSeek require to step up the education level of our engineering work force. Competitive product development and innovation require expertise in the most advanced research methods in Speech Language and AI. However, such expertise is not adequately provided by current European Master programmes in information technology and computer science. Therefore, this new and innovative Master will educate students in the area of Speech Language and AI for research careers in industry, start-ups, and academia. With this extremely timely focus, we become attractive for excellent graduates from international Bachelor programmes who often look for graduate school admission with a clear path to a PhD degree in their chosen specialisation. The Erasmus Mundus scheme will guarantee that the best students get research experience in technologies for at least two different language communities preparing them for their role as drivers of societal development and industrial competitiveness.
