Description
Description | Spiritual Music is a transnational project aimed at revitalizing the European music sector through collaborative artistic practices between Italy, Spain, and Romania. The initiative promotes the creation and circulation of new musical works while enhancing, preserving, and transmitting Europe’s rich cultural and musical heritage. At its core lies an innovative reinterpretation of the pipe organ, from a liturgical instrument to a dynamic creative platform, enabling cross-genre, site-specific artistic collaborations that blend jazz, world music, contemporary composition, and choral traditions. Spiritual Music embraces a site-specific approach by transforming churches and historic buildings into active elements of artistic innovation, utilizing their acoustic and symbolic characteristics to inspire new forms of expression. It fosters transnational co-creation among artists from diverse religious and stylistic backgrounds, where works emerge through dialogue, improvisation, and collective experimentation. This methodological shift supports social innovation through inclusive participation, engaging community choirs, youth, and migrants, particularly Ukrainian people, thus promoting cultural citizenship and cohesion. Training and capacity building are integral to the project, offering masterclasses, workshops, and professional exchanges to develop a shared European artistic skillset. Activities take place across key regions in Italy, Spain, and Romania, with additional outreach in Greece at the Rhodes Organ Festival. The project is structured into six interconnected work packages over 24 months, encompassing management, artistic creation, community engagement, public performances, education, and dissemination. Spiritual Music's European dimension is amplified through partnerships with networks such as the European Jazz Network, expanding its impact and fostering long-term collaboration across borders. |
