Spring Creek Flood-Control Dams

The San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) conducted a conceptual engineering feasibility study on two dry detention flood-control dams in the Spring Creek watershed, one on Birch Creek and the other on Walnut Creek. These dams would temporarily capture floodwater and release it slowly to reduce flood peaks. The Walnut Creek reservoir could hold approximately 13,000 acre feet of stormwater and Birch Creek reservoir about 9,000 acre feet. The study recommends pursuing both projects independently, starting with Birch Creek, and calls for further design studies, refining property acquisition prices, and finding a project sponsor and funding mechanism for maintenance in Waller County, Texas.
