Squamish - Xwu’nekw Park Sea Dike at Mamquam Blind Channel

The project will construct a sea dyke at the Xwu’nekw Park at Mamquam Blind Channel and provide flood protection to the densely populated downtown area against sea-level rise. The dyke will protect approximately 100 businesses, BC Hydro’s substation, a sanitary lift pump, and other infrastructure from coastal flooding. The earthfill dam will also provide stability to the park land and enhance marine habitat. The project will complete an approximately 200m section of sea dike as a phase of a larger project that will construct 7km of dike at completion of all phases. The attached Climate Resilience Assessment has been completed for the entire 7km dike, but specific risk and mitigation portions were completed for the 200m section covered under this project. The project works include: - Site preparation, mobilization and demobilization; - Project planning, design and engineering works; - Environmental protection works; - Installation of approximately 200 m Sheet pile wall; - Installation of concrete reinforcement, C- channel, anchors and foundation improvements; - Supply and compaction of earth filling; - Construction of walkway; - Site improvements including topsoil, grading and hydroseeding; - Park improvements including Installation of lighting, trees and benches; and, - related works.
