Description

Description

This project replaces the structurally deficient bridge on State Route 100 over the Coosa River, 0.3 miles south of junction with State Route 20. The existing bridge, constructed in 1955, is load limited with a sufficiency rating of 48.73. State Route 100 at this location is a rural two lane roadway with 12 ft travel lanes and rural shoulders. This section of State Route 100 is functionally classified as a rural major collector and is a designated school bus route. Traffic is projected to be 4550 and 6500 vehicles per day in 2013 and 2033 respectively with 21% trucks. The posted speed and the design speed are 55 MPH. State Route 100 will be relocated just west of its present location and for a total length of 1.16 miles. The proposed new bridge will be 560 ft x 44 ft. State Route 100 will consist of two 12 ft lanes with 10 ft rural shoulders, 2 ft of which will be paved. Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge while the proposed bridge is constructed.
