Description

Description

This project consists of installing ground-in rumble strips along the centerline of the following routes: SR 154 from SR 54 in Sharpsburg to I-85 (approximately 6 miles in Coweta County) SR 16/US 27 from the Carrollton Bypass to the Newnan Bypass (approximately 17 miles in Carroll and Coweta Counties) SR 14 from Herring Road/CR 43 to Johnston Circle/CR 7 (approximately 6.5 miles in Coweta County) Installation of centerline rumble strips is one of the initiatives of the Department's Safety Action Plan, which supports the Department's goal to reduce fatalities by 2% annually. In 2002, on-system head-on and opposite direction sideswipe crashes represented 2% of the total crashes, but accounted for 12% of the total number of fatalities statewide. States using centerline rumble strips reporting on implementation results are showing an average of 21% reduction in head-on and opposite direction sideswipes and a 25% reduction in injuries.
