Description

Project BHF00-0151-01(006), located in Gordon County, proposes the realignment of SR 225 in conjunction with the replacement of structurally deficient bridges located on SR 225 over New Town Creek (MP 2.40) and the Coosawattee River (MP 2.57). The bridge at New Town Creek has a Sufficiency Rating of 52.97 and the bridge at the Coosawattee River has a Sufficiency Rating of 4.00. Both bridges were structurally evaluated on June 24, 2003 by the Office of Bridge Maintenance. They were both classified as structurally deficient due to the load capacity and recommended for replacement. It was also recommended to improve the alignment in this area. The existing alignment has substandard curvature and superelevation, and a history of safety problems (2 fatalities in 3 years).
