The project proposes the placement of a 4' raised median along portions of the centerline of the existing roadway. The project is located on SR 26/US 80 between 14th Street and Tybrisa Avenue on Tybee Island. The median would be planted with palm trees and native grasses. Median breaks will be located to provide continued access to the businesses and city streets/alleys. The roadway travel and parking lanes would be restriped, certain existing unused driveways closed, and brick pavers installed in lieu of the existing 2' wide grass strip between existing curb and sidewalk. The total length of the project is 1200'. This project would restore the historic look of Tybee to the area, provide pedestrian refuge for those crossing the street, and extend the aesthetics of earlier projects into the corridor.
