Description

Description

Located in Chatham County, Georgia and Jasper County, South Carolina, will add a new bridge adjacent to the existing bridge on SR 404 SPUR/US 17 over Back River into South Carolina, where South Carolina Department of Transportation is widening US 17 to four lanes. This project will begin at the southern end of the Back River Bridge and end at the full 4-lane section under cst by SCDOT Project ID 0039168, approximately one-half mile north of the northern end of the Back River Bridge. Each bridge will be unidirectional and would carry two lanes. As part of this project, a portion of the northbound entrance ramp between Savannah Harbor Parkway and northbound US 17 will be reconstructed to replace the existing stop-controlled entrance with a parallel type entrance terminal to northbound US 17 on the new Back River bridge. The Georgia/South Carolina state line is approximately 850 ft. south of the end of the existing Back River bridge. The project length is 1.277 miles.
