The proposed project is the intersection improvements at U.S. 23/S.R. 42 at Harris Drive, located 2.5 miles north of Locust Grove, Georgia. The purpose of this project is to improve the safety and operations of the intersection of S.R. 42 and Harris Drive. The rapid growth of this area will increase traffic volumes that will compromise the safe operation of this route. Harris Drive is a two lane roadway with two - 10' lanes with five foot shoulders. U.S. 23/S.R. 42 is a two lane roadway with two - 12' lanes with six foot shoulders. The proposed project will realign Harris Drive south of the current intersection with U.S. 23/S.R. 42. S.R. 42 will be overlaid 24', widened six feet on both sides to provide a southbound left turn lane and 12' on the east side to provide a northbound right turn lane with 10' shoulders. Harris Drive will have one - 12' right and left westbound turn lanes and a 12' eastbound through lane with six foot grass shoulders.
