This project is the replacement of a structurally deficient bridge on SR 52 over Candler Creek, 5.4 miles south of Lula, Georgia. The existing bridge, constructed in 1940, is load limited with a sufficiency rating of 46. State Route 52 at this location is a rural two lane roadway with 12' travel lanes and rural shoulders. Traffic is projected to be 4,300 VPD and 5,700 VPD in the years 2010 and 2030 respectively. The posted speed and the design speed are 55 MPH. The construction proposes to relocate SR 52 north of its present location, extending a total of 0.46 mile. The proposed new bridge will be 200' x 44' and will be located just north of the existing bridge structure. The relocated SR 52 will consist of two, 12' lanes with 10' rural shoulders (2' paved). Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge while the proposed bridge is constructed.
