The structure on SR 53 (Dawsonville Highway) over Thompson Creek, Structure ID 085-0013-0, is a 2-barrel corrugated metal pipe culvert with dirt head walls and dirt aprons built in 1935. It has been assumed to be designed using an H-15 vehicle which is below our current standard. The current condition of the culvert is fair. The protective coating has worn away from the inside of the corrugated metal pipes allowing the exposed steel to corrode with up to 100% section loss at the waterline. Due to the type and location of barrel deterioration, the susceptibility of scour failure of the dirt headwalls and the design loading being below current standards, replacement of this structure is necessary.
