Description

Description

The bridge on SR 54 over Bear Creek, Structure ID 077-0016-0, was built in 1947. This bridge consists of a single span of steel beams on concrete wall abutments. The bridge was designed using an H-15 vehicle, which is below current design standards. This bridge is classified as functionally obsolete due to the narrow gutter-to-gutter width of only 23.8 feet. The overall condition of this bridge would be classified as satisfactory. The superstructure is in good condition. The substructure is in satisfactory condition with minor cracking with efflorescence. This bridge is classified as having an unknown foundation and therefore could be at risk for scour. Due to the age of the structure, the structural integrity of the bridge pertaining to the design vehicle, the unknown foundation of the substructure, and the functional obsolescence of the bridge, replacement of this 70-year-old bridge is recommended.
