Description | This project consists of the replacement of the structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridge on SR 57 over the Oconee River at the Washington - Wilkinson County line. The proposed typical section is comprised of one 12-ft travel lane in each direction with 10-ft rural shoulders. SR 57 will be realigned in order to construct the new 44-ft. wide reinforced concrete bridge while traffic is maintained on the existing roadway. Once the new bridge and approaches are constructed, traffic will be diverted to the new alignment and the existing bridge removed. The roadbed will remain in place, however, the asphalt will be obliterated and removed. Guardrail will be installed on both sides of SR 57 due to the high fill sections required in order to obtain proper vertical separation with the river water flood stage elevations. |
