The proposed improvement would provide dual westbound right turn lanes on SR 6 and extend the westbound left-turn storage. The additional westbound right lane would provide added capacity and reduce delays for the high volumes executing this movement at the intersection and reduce delays on right turns. The westbound left turn lane storage would be extended to 700 ft of storage, which will reduce queue spillback that currently blocks the westbound through vehicles. To accommodate the second westbound right-turn lane, the project will widen the roadway to the north of the approach and signalize the movement to overlap with the southbound left-turn movement. Additionally, the extension of the westbound left-turn lane will require widening into the existing concrete median. The right turn improvements will also provide safety benefits by improving the angle of the channelized right turn, which will benefit driver visibility and reduce the likelihood of angle collisions.
