The proposed project is located on S.R. 8/U.S. 78 in the City of Bremen, Haralson County. The project consists of the closing of an existing at-grade crossing at Georgia Avenue and Southern Railway and improving the existing at-grade railroad crossing at Fern Street and Southern Railway. The existing roadway on Florida Avenue from S.R. 8 south to Laurel Street will be improved, adding curb and gutter on the east side of the street and curb and gutter and sidewalk on the west side of the street. A center left turn lane will be added on S.R. 8 from Florida Avenue east to tie into the existing center turn lane at Bryant Street. The at-grade crossing at Sewell Road will be closed and a new at-grade crossing will be constructed at Ayers Street. High accident rates at the intersections of S.R. 8 and Georgia Avenue and S.R. 8 and Florida Avenue warrant the closing and improvement of at-grade railroad crossings in this area.
