Description

Description

This bridge (Structure ID 159-0009-0; SR 83 over Murder River) was built in 1963. The bridge consists of nine spans of reinforced concrete deck girders (RCDGs) on concrete caps with steel piles. It was designed using an HS-20 vehicle and the calculated load carrying capacity is 44 percent lower than our current standards. This bridge is on the base highway network. The bridge is narrow with no shoulders and does not meet current design standards. The current condition of the bridge is fair. There is spalling with exposed rebar on the bottom of the deck. The RCDGs have minor cracks throughout. The steel piles have corrosion and advanced section loss throughout. The concrete caps have moderate cracks in some areas. Due to the condition of this structure, the load carrying capacity and width being below current design standards, and the extent of work needed to bring it up to current standards, replacement of this structure is necessary.
