Description

Description

This bridge (Structure ID 159-0008-0; SR 83 over Shoal Creek) was built in 1963. The bridge consists of five spans of reinforced concrete deck girders (RCDG’s) on concrete caps with steel piles. It was designed using an HS-20 vehicle and the calculated load carrying capacity is 28 percent lower than our current standards. This bridge is on the base highway network. The current condition of the bridge is fair. There is minor cracking throughout the deck. The RCDG’s have minor cracks and spalls. The steel piles have corrosion and section loss up to 50% in some areas. The pile encasements are also undermined at the waterline. Due to the condition of this structure, the load carrying capacity being below current design standards and the extent of the section loss, replacement of this structure is necessary.
