Description
Description | The proposed project will empower the communities by strengthening the community platforms to deliver quality nutrition services to pregnant and lactating women and children under 5 years of age. The project will cover 4 vulnerable districts across all provinces of Sri Lanka (Nuwara Eliya, Rathnapura, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee). These vulnerable regions contain roughly 8 percent of the population in the country. The direct beneficiaries of the proposed project are pregnant and lactating mothers (approximately 29,793) and children under the age of five (approximately 196,309). The project will be implemented by the Family Health Bureau (FHB) of the Ministry of Health. The project is expected to be implemented over 28 months (2026 - 2028) with a proposed investment of US$3.0 million ($2.73 million Recipient Grant and $0.27 million Bank Supervision Grant). The project will support the following activities, identified in consultation with the Ministry of Health: (i) Community mobilization and capacity development; (ii) Promotion of nutrient-rich diets and nutrient-dense food supplements; and (vi) support technical assessments and knowledge dissemination. The project design will include a built-in monitoring and rigorous evaluation system to capture and disseminate the lessons learned. |
