Srinagar Smart City Mission

Srinagar was selected under the Smart Cities Mission in 2017 with a project approved at an estimated cost of Rs 3,634 crore. The project aims to develop a modern, technology-driven city with improved mobility, upgraded drainage, heritage conservation, intelligent traffic management, and better public spaces. It includes redevelopment of Lal Chowk, pedestrian-friendly streets, electric buses, cycle tracks, riverfront promenades along the Jhelum, and an Integrated Command and Control Centre. Despite visible upgrades, many civic problems like flooding, traffic congestion, and maintenance issues persist. An independent third-party audit has been ordered to assess the quality and outcomes of the project.
