The Srisailam Left Bank Canal project is a ₹4,600 crore tunnel project aimed at transferring Krishna river water from the Srisailam reservoir to provide irrigation to four lakh acres in the erstwhile combined Nalgonda district and drinking water to 516 villages en route. The project involves drilling a 44 km main tunnel, with 20.5 km completed from Devarakonda end and 14 km from the inlet end at Domalapenta. The remaining 9.6 km stretch is to be drilled from the inlet side in the Nallamala forest range. The project faced a tunnel collapse in February 2025, resulting in casualties and suspension of rescue operations. The government is committed to completing the project before December 9, 2027, with directives to resolve issues promptly and ensure uninterrupted work.
