Description

In July 2011, SSA Mexico, a subsidiary of the American Group Carrix, won in a competitive bidding the right to build and operate a new car terminal at Lazaro Cardenas Port in Mexico. The facility was named Lazaro Terminal Especializada de Autos (TEA), and the project envisaged a terminal capacity to handle 750 thousand cars per year. The bidding criteria was the highest offer for the right to develop the project. The port authority conducted the bidding process, and SSA Mexico offered US$ 24 million (Pesos 311 million). Two other companies took part in the bidding process: the Mexican companies Amports and Pasha Group. The sponsors created the company APM Terminals Lazaro Cardenas S.A. de C.V. to lead the project. The 30-year contract was signed in October 2012. The project's investment was estimated at US$ 38.1 million (Pesos 486 million). Operations commenced in October 2013.
