Description

Sisecam Soda Lukavac Bosnia (“SSL” or “the Company”) is a manufacturer of soda ash using the Solvay Process and refined, food grade, sodium bicarbonate. Soda ash manufacturing at the site dates from 1893. Sisecam acquired the production assets through a privatization in 2007, established the modern day company Sisecam Soda Lukavac and with IFC’s support has invested to upgrade, modernize and expand production facilities. The proposed project will be a continuation of this process and includes the following elements, (i) a capacity increase from 365 thousand tons/year (tpa) to 500 thousand tpa, ; (ii) utility system investments including refurbishment of two boilers, addition of a standby boiler and installation of a steam turbine to increase electricity self-generation; (iii) improvements in SSL’s operational efficiency through renovation and equipment upgrades and additional infrastructure (such as a new warehouse); (iv) continued investment in waste water treatment and (iv) some permanent working capital financing to SSL.
