Description
Description | Opportunity St. Joseph’s Health Care, London is a patient care, teaching and research centre that handles more than 39,000 urgent patient visits and 368,000 outpatient visits annually. St. Joseph’s provides acute ambulatory care, rehabilitation, specialized mental health care, seniors’ health services and complex continuing care. In 1997 St. Joseph’s Health Care, London and the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC)—a health care organization operating from three hospital sites— began working together to reorganize and align the delivery of acute care services in London, as prescribed by Health Services Restructuring Commission directives. Reorganizing health care services required the construction of new facilities as well as the renovation of existing space. Milestone Two, Phase One (M2P1) is the first phase of the multi-phased redevelopment at St. Joseph’s. Innovations The builder was required to finance the construction of the project until the facilities were turned over to St. Joseph’s, providing financial incentive to complete the project on-time. Results Significant renovations to approximately 81,175 square feet of space created space for urgent care, a cataract suite, urology, endocrinology and diabetes services, short-stay facilities and records storage. Overall the project supported almost 230 jobs in the surrounding area and provided an $18 million boost to the local and Ontario economies. Approximately $13 million was spent on locally sourced supplies. The new facilities provide a better working environment for researchers, healthcare practitioners and scientists. |
