Description

Description

In September 2008, Berlinwasser International AG took over operation of the St Martin Wastewater Treatment Plant in Mauritius, under a 7-year management contract. The date of the award and details on the bidding process remained unknown. Under the terms of the agreement, Berlinwasser International AG was responsible for management and operation of the 70,000 m3/d treatment plant until 2015. The wastewater was treated in the plant by conventional means. The biogas produced during the anaerobic sludge treatment was converted into electrical energy and was used for operation of the plant. A third treatment stage with UV and sand filter was used to treat the wastewater for agriculture use. St Martin Wastewater Treatment Plant was part of a government scheme aimed at improving the quality of the coastal water. The treatment plant's construction was funded by the European Investment Bank and was completed in 2005.
