Description

Description

The project aims to bring the St. Pete Science Center back online to provide STEAM educational programming for children in St. Petersburg. The Science Center, closed since 2014, is located at 7701 22nd Ave. North and is currently owned by the city. The reimagined center will focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education, including an AI village, event spaces, a reimagined planetarium, and preservation of historic features. The project has raised over $9 million with a total expected cost of $25 million, funded by private and public sources without city financial contribution. The city is considering selling the property to St. Pete STEAM, which has agreed to pay $1.6 million for the site, but the city mayor is also considering retaining the site for future water storage needs, which has caused uncertainty about the project's future.
