Description
Description | "Standards on additive manufacturing (AM) are led by ISO and ASTM which signed, in 2011, a Partner Standards Developing Organization (PSDO) cooperation agreement to develop ISO/ASTM standards. CEN/TC 438 ""Additive manufacturing"" applies the Vienna Agreement on all ISO/ASTM AM standards to offer a collection of AM standards to the European market. Beyond the clerical tasks carried out by CEN/TC 438 secretariat to apply the Vienna Agreement, a plenary meeting is held every year for a review of EN/ISO ASTM AM standardisation work programme, discussion on improvements for the EN ISO/ASTM collaboration and feedback from Liaison Organizations and European Research Projects. ISO and ASTM standardisation committees on AM are composed by experts from all over the world including European countries. However, the participation of European experts shall be reinforced in ISO and ASTM: CEN/TC 438 shall be more visible and shall be a driving force to create new EN ISO/ASTM standards -especially when these standards are linked to European Regulation- or transfer European results into EN ISO/ASTM standards. To carry out these actions, the S-AM project proposes: • the development of a new EN ISO/ASTM standard to be harmonised with the Machinery Regulation on a specific AM process • a workshop on the European needs for AM standardisation • a European roadmap for material AM standards and preparation new EN/ISO ASTM standards. These actions intend to accelerate and improve the transfer of European stakeholders’ knowledge as they will highlight their standardisation needs, make pre-standardisation research based on bibliography and priorities and, finally, be at the origin of proposals for new standards in the EN ISO/ASTM standardisation which is the aims of Topic 3 SMP-STAND-2024-ESOS-03-IBA Standardisation on additive manufacturing." |
