Starlink Satellite Internet Service Expansion

operational

Starlink, a satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, is expanding its broadband internet service to rural America using a constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites. This technology bypasses the traditional physical cable infrastructure, providing high-speed internet with low latency. Starlink has rapidly grown its user base from 140,000 in 2021 to 8 million in 2025, offering download speeds exceeding 200 Mbps and latency around 23 ms, outperforming federal broadband benchmarks. The service is largely privately financed and requires minimal subsidization compared to traditional fiber-optic broadband expansion.
