Description
Description | Elon Musk's satellite internet firm, Starlink, has secured a vital licence from the Indian telecom ministry, marking a significant step towards beginning commercial operations in India. Starlink becomes the third company to be granted such a licence by the Department of Telecommunications, joining OneWeb and Reliance Jio in rolling out satellite-based internet services across the country. The approval follows a 2-year wait since 2022, delayed by national security considerations. Starlink is also involved in a debate over spectrum allocation with Reliance Jio, with the Indian government supporting Starlink's view for direct assignment of spectrum. |
