Description

Description

Family businesses(FB) are most popular business form in world (Seaman 2012; Braun Zacharias Latham 2011). Annually they build 70-90% of world GDP (Global Data Points, 2012). In Poland(PL) data on FB number are old PARP 2009] / not accurate (by excluding self-employment they don’t include FB specifics). Estimations: more than 60% SME are FB (40% GDP, 50% employment), but there’s no register of FB and only limited data on succession development level (many FB exist since 1989 - succession is becoming important for them). There is no data on: • the percentage share of FB in PL, also divided in micro*, small*, medium* and large businesses (basing on EU definition), in particular branches and in PL’s GDP • ownership, financing, employment structure • expansion countries • number of female owners and board members • legal forms / changes depending on market conditions • age of FB • succession development level • innovation approach, etc. The project objective is to create representative statistical data base of FB in PL, including identification, characterization and evaluation of FB’ work in PL. Project lasts 12 m-o with following stages: Research, Data Collection and analysis, Dissemination and promotion 2000 FB will be surveyed (min. 1884 with following parameters: confidence level 0.99; fraction size 0.5; max error 0.03). Research method: CATI. Quota sampling will be applied based on company size (large, medium, small, micro according to share in population given by GUS); region, branch. Examined will be owner or board member with high decisiveness. The tool: standardized interview questionnaire. Project is valuable in cognitive and utilitarian way. Knowledge of FB structure enables determining their contribution to PL and EU economy; contributes to planning economic and political activities to enhance their competitiveness and durability. Creating FB statistics contributes to entrepreneurship promotion and creation of specific tools for groups, e.g. women in FB
